State Senator Louis S. Viverito (D-Burbank) joined U.S.Representative Dan Lipinski, IDOT Secretary Gary Hannig, and U.S.House
Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Chairman Jim Oberstar (MN) to discuss two critical infrastructure initiatives, including the
Central Avenue Bypass and the CREATE rail modernization program, scheduled for the Southwest Side of Chicago (11th Legislative
District).

The U.S. House Transportation Committee Chairman Jim Oberstar  and Congress are drafting the $500 billion  federal highway bill that
could provide  Illinois funding in transportation projects including the Central Avenue Bypass which will connect the thoroughfare between
65th and 73rd Streets in Bedford Park, while the CREATE rail modernization plan will include the construction of local railroad
underpasses. Senator Viverito strongly urged the  transportation leaders "the benefits of  opening Central Avenue would  reduce the highly
congested traffic  on Cicero and Harlem Avenues and alleviate  safety concerns in case of police, fire and medical emergencies in our
community."  These projects  will aid economic development and boost commuter access to Midway Airport and link major highways.
"Phase one of these projects is scheduled to be completed by 2010. Phases two and three are contingent upon getting the proper funding,"
noted Charmain Oberstar.

The Transportation Roundtable  Forum  at Toyota Park was also attended by  several local mayors, business leaders,  and Illinois State
Senator Martin A. Sandoval (D-Chicago), Chairman of the Illinois Senate Transportation Committee.
March 04, 2009 :  Attorney General, Senator Louis S. Viverito Propose Program to Assist Families of  Fallen Law
Enforcement Officiers, Military Service Members

Springfield - This legislation proposed by Attorney General Lisa Madigan and Sen. Louis Viverito (D-Burbank) that would create an
assistance program for families of fallen law enforcement officers and military service members passed out of committee by a unanimous
vote. The bill, if passed by the General Assembly, would amend the Line of Duty Compensation Act to ensure victims’ families gain
efficient and effective access to information about their pending compensation claims.

“Some families have waited for more than four years for their cases to be resolved, and during this period, they did not receive updates on
the status of their claims,” Madigan said. “These families have already suffered an immeasurable loss. We must make sure that we don’t
add to their pain by failing to provide them necessary information in a timely fashion. With this legislation, we can make some simple
changes that will improve the claims process and keep families informed throughout the course of their claim. I applaud Sen. Viverito for
sponsoring this important litigation and look forward to working with the General Assembly to see to its passage.”

Under the Line of Duty Compensation Act, family members of an individual killed in the line of duty are entitled to compensation through
the Court of Claims. The legislation, Senate Bill 1493, sponsored by Senators Viverito, Kwame Raoul, Michael Noland, William Haine and
Antonio Munoz, would establish a “Gold Star Families Assistance Program” to provide these families with detailed information about their
Line of Duty Compensation Act claims. The bill calls for the Court of Claims to create a toll-free helpline solely dedicated to families
seeking information about the Line of Duty Compensation Act and the status of their claims. The bill also would require the Court of
Claims to submit information annually to the Governor, the General Assembly and the Department of Veterans’ Affairs concerning the
status of Line of Duty Compensation Act claims pending in the Illinois Court of Claims.

“The Line of Duty Compensation Act is an important way that we recognize the ultimate sacrifice made by our men and women who serve
in the military, on police forces and in fire departments,” said Sen. Viverito. “Giving survivors a real person at the Court of Claims who can
answer questions quickly and accurately is a simple thing that I hope will in some way ease the burden of the loss these families live with.”

SPRINGFIELD, IL — Illinois State Sen. Louis Viverito (D-11th District) passed legislation today which creates a revenue stream to fund
a much-needed capital plan for Illinois.

House Bill 312, which passed unanimously out of the Senate, will authorize projects which include road construction, school construction,
parks, transit and state facilities. District 11 spending includes:

More than $255 million for Cook County local roads which includes $60 million for the new bridge and underpass Central Avenue-Central
to Central-PEII
Over $160 million for highway projects
$4.4 million for school improvements

House Bill 312, through a series of fee increases, tax adjustments and regulations; will generate more than $1 billion in revenue to fund a
program to improve the state’s crumbling infrastructure. By providing the funding to repair and improve roads, bridges and other capital
projects, the legislation will simultaneously create sustainable jobs and help put unemployed Illinoisans back to work.

“Illinois has needed a capital program for over 10 years. We can no longer maintain our infrastructure without a major infusion of
funding,” Viverito said. “It is our responsibility to help Illinois’ financial condition and assist in job creation, especially in light of our
current economy.”
